Tashkent

The Capital of Uzbekistan

The population is more than 3.02 million.
Tashkent city is the capital of the Republic of Uzbekistan, separate from the Tashkent region. The city is located in the north-eastern part of the country next to the Tien-Shan Mountains, in the valley of the River Chirchik at 440-480 meters above sea level.
The city is the 4th most populous in the CIS countries, after Moscow, St. Petersburg and Kyiv, and is the largest city in Central Asia.

Samarkand

Nowadays, according to the population number and the importance of the area and industry, Samarkand is the largest city after Tashkent.
Samarkand is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, a major tourist center. According to the American journal, The Huffington Post, Samarkand is a city that everyone should visit at least once in a lifetime.

Bukhara

Bukhara is one of the oldest and most beautiful cities of Central Asia and is one of 3 masterpiece cities of the Great Silk Road. Bukhara is a Muslim spiritual and religious center in the east, (called Kubbat al-Islam – The Dome of Islam) the largest commercial city and “one of the noblest cities in the world”. According to archeological data, the founding of the city goes back to the middle of the first millennium BC. The oldest Chinese sources give the names An, Ansi, Ango, Nyumi, Bukho,Buku,Bukhe,Buxuaer, Buxuala Fuxo and Puxuala.

Khiva

Khiva is a real open-air museum city. A real treasure of the Central Asian architecture, Khiva is  a city of fairy tales and legends, the city of minarets and madrassas. Khiva is one of the three masterpiece cities of the East.
According to archeologists, Khiva was founded in the 5th or 4th centuries BC. As the first major structures were built, the city became a trading post on the Silk Road, or there is also the local Zoroastrian version, namely that Khiva was built by a Zoroastrian Goddess ArdaKhiva who fell in love with a mortal man and went down to earth to build this city for mankind. That`s the city was called Khiva after the name of Arda Khiva.  Khiva appears on the pages of history at IX century, when it entered to Samanids kingdom area.

MONEY & COSTS:

The Uzbek currency is called the Som (UZS). There are few ATMs in Uzbekistan and even then, most do not accept any card other than Visa. Stores and restaurants typically do not accept credit cards.

BEST TIME TO GO:

Uzbekistan is best visited during spring and autumn (April to May, and September to early November). During these periods, it’s typically warm and dry.

Uzbekistan is a safe country and most trips are trouble-free. There is a visible police presence and most citizens are law abiding.  People in Uzbekistan are super hospitable and love to receive foreigners in their culture.
